Domain name transfers

gTLD (.com .net etc) Registrar Transfer Process
We use Tucows as our domain registrar and any registered domain can be transferred to Tucows and hosted by Weave-a-Web Services.

To transfer a gTLD it is necessary to add one year to the current domain registration period.
For example, if your domain name is registered until December 31st 2005 and you transfer it, the expiry date will become December 31st 2006. The cost for this is £20 + VAT.

The process for making a gTLD transfer is as follows :

• Request to transfer domain is instigated by Weave-a-Web Services upon your instruction - all we need is the domain name
• The admin contact of the domain is contacted by existing registrar and asked to authorise the transfer to Tucows
  
• Assuming the admin contact authorises the transfer, there is a 9 day wait for the domain to become active with Weave-a-Web Services, after which the domain should be live within 48 hours.

To keep web site and email downtime to an absolute minimum it is advisable to modify the name servers to point to our servers in advance of transferring the domain.

gTLD Registrar Transfer Requirements

• The domain must have been registered for more than 60 days
  
• The current admin contact must be able to confirm the transfer
  
• The domain name must not be 'on hold' with the current registrar. The domain could be on hold for payment issues, renewal issues etc
  
• The domain must be at least 40 days from it's renewal date
  
• The domain name must meet ALL the above Requirements to be able to transfer

The process for .co.uk domain transfers is even simpler - you simply need to fax your existing registrar with an instruction to change the IPS tag to FASTHOSTS. Once this tag has been modified, we can usually take control of the domain within 48 hours.
